Below is a sampling of our workshops and institutes:

Supporting & Measuring the Growth of Students with Learning Differences
2-hour to 1-day workshop or 2 to 3-day institute
Participants learn a new way to plan intervention and measure progress. We take curriculum standards and define measurable goals, individualize intervention strategies, and set up progress records using goal attainment scaling. The resulting growth plan streamlines intervention and data collection into a natural part of everyday routines.

Assessment, Grading, & Feedback: A Powerful GPS for All Learners
Keynote, 2-hour to 1-day workshop, or a 2-3 day institute
Participants consider the changes in assessment, grading, and feedback necessary to support student learning. We revisit guiding principles of learning and explore new ways to use standards-based learning and grading to support assessment practices that prepare learners for lifelong success.

Engaging Students in Standards-Based Learning
Keynote or 1 to 3-hour workshop
In the move to standards-based learning and grading questions remain about engaging learners. How do we motivate students if behavior is no longer reflected in the achievement grade? How do we promote strong approaches to learning without relying on the carrot of a grade? Here we explore many methods teachers can use to impart the behaviors students need to find success in life.

Healthy Grading Practices for Students with Learning Differences
Keynote or 1 to 3-hour workshop
Assigning fair and meaningful grades to students with learning differences is a difficult task. Very little guidance can be found in policy or the field of special education. Here, participants will learn about how to use standards-based grading for all learners. We use a 5-step inclusive model for grading and reporting achievement of students with learning differences in a fair, meaningful, and legally defensible way.

RTIi: Powerful Tier 1 Through Co-Teaching
Keynote or 1 to 3-hour workshop
Response to Instruction and Intervention has quickly grown in popularity in schools throughout the world, but many misconceptions remain. Here we learn about high-powered universal design methods to use in Tier I instruction to support all students’ success. Participants will explore the six models of co-teaching and how to apply them across all age divisions.

Team-based Delivery of Support To Students with Learning Differences
Keynote or 1 to 3-hour workshop
Often it feels as though we need many specialists to get intervention to everyone who needs that level of support. How can we, with the resources available to us, deliver the intensity of intervention that some of our learners need? Here, participants will learn about a consultative model of intervention planning and delivery that increases the dosage and impact of intervention.

Meaningful Learning Support in International Schools
Keynote or 2 to 4-hour workshop
The curricular rigor in international education poses challenges for schools aiming to meaningfully include students with disabilities and developmental delays. Too often, learning support time must be spent ensuring the student completes required high-level assignments. But where do we find the time to teach the fundamental skills students need for long-term success? In this session, participants engage in group discussion after learning the 3 necessary components of learning support for meaningful inclusion.

Courses & Programs

Courses

Our courses and programs address contemporary issues that educators and leaders are facing in schools today. The activities are job-embedded, ensuring both usefulness and the ability to apply new skills. Courses run from January to May, June to July, and August to December.

Our courses are offered in hybrid and online formats, providing participants the opportunity to study in a flexible format alongside people from around world. Each of our courses uses a mixture of recorded video, live videoconference, discussion boards, and job-embedde dactivities that provide sustained engagement in a convenient format for busy education professionals.

Programs

The International Inclusive Education Program is designed for educators and leaders in international schools. The program responds to the critical and growing need for school personnel at international schools to have adequate support in serving students with learning differences.

Our 5-course program prepares general educators, special educators, counselors, educational leaders, and other school personnel to design and deliver effective accommodations, modifications, and interventions within general education settings. Completion of all five courses leads to a digital badge in International Inclusive Education from the ASCD Student Growth Center. This program has served hundreds of participants in Central and South America and the Middle East.

Register for an upcoming cohort here.

Participants in our Courses and Programs can choose their desired credential and participation level:

Graduate Credit: Participants successfully complete all assignments for university graduate credit for an additional fee.
Digital Badge: Participants successfully complete all assignments for a Digital Badge of competency in the course for no additional fee.
Experience Only: Participants participate in all activities but submit no assignments.

Coaching & Feedback

We offer individualized coaching and feedback on the practices we teach and with GoalWorks software.

Our coaching sessions are delivered online through videoconference and/or through online discussion. We offer coaching and feedback on writing goals, developing scales of measurement, developing intervention support strategies, and all other components of the IEP and growth planning process. We also offer coaching and feedback on the process of developing standards-based learning, assessment, and grading practices. We review report cards, gradebooks, policies, and offer coaching sessions to support individuals and small groups through the process.

Audits of Practice

For schools in the US or abroad, we offer independent, external audits to provide schools with recommendations for improvement. We provide audits in two categories: inclusive practices and standards-based grading & learning.

Audits are mixed-method studies that include surveys, interviews, focus groups, and document review. Participants in the study include faculty, administrators, parents, and students. Documents reviewed depend upon the nature of the audit and can include IEPs, progress notes, report cards, gradebooks, grading programs, policies, procedures, mission and vision statements, and webpages. The audit results in a detailed report of results and concrete recommendations for strengthening practices. Audits are confidential and intended for internal use for improvement.
